The official language in France is of course French. English is now also
mandatory in French schools, making it likely that many people will be able
to communicate with you. However, in general French people will be most
helpful and appreciative if you attempt to communicate in French first.
This of course is not required since with BellaTerra Travel your guide is
a native French-speaker!
However, if you are interested in trying some French during our tour,
we would recommend the following free online lessons
http://www.learner.org/resources/series83.html
prior to our departure. This series, French in Action, offers 52 video
French lessons. . Although the movies are a little outdated, it remains
a good teaching program.
If you live in the San Francisco Bay Area (where BellaTerra Travel
is based) and want to participate in a more structured French language
instruction, we highly recommend The French Class in San Francisco
(www.frenchclass.com).
They have highly-qualified, effective teachers, offering both private
and classroom methods, and are conveniently located 2 blocks from Union Square.
